Philippe n'aurait jamais imaginé qu'il se retrouverait un mardi soir dans la salle polyvalente de la mairie, entouré de vingt-trois inconnus qui faisaient des vocalises. Pourtant, c'était bien lui qui se tenait là, sa partition tremblant légèrement entre ses mains.
Trois mois plus tôt, Nathalie était partie. Vingt-deux ans de mariage, évaporés comme la buée sur une vitre d'hiver. Depuis, l'appartement lui semblait trop grand, trop silencieux. C'est sa sœur Martine qui avait insisté : « Il faut que tu sortes, que tu fasses quelque chose. N'importe quoi. » Elle lui avait glissé le prospectus de la chorale sous la porte, avec ces mots griffonnés : Tu chantais bien, avant.
Avant. Ce mot lui faisait mal.
